Carbon Copy Magazine
There are presently no open calls for submissions.
Just some ground rules. I mean, even sellouts have rules.
First, foremost, qualification numero uno, top-o’-the-heap expectation: write about pop culture. We’re looking for “literary” work (whatever that means, exactly) that engages, mentions, highlights, celebrates pop culture. In short, we’re a pro-pop-culture literary mag. Scathing critiques of The Real Housewives of Orange County? Glib comments about Lady Gaga? Dismissive attitudes toward Splenda? No, no, no thanks.
Now the nitty, now the gritty...
Poetry: We’d dig 3-5 poems. Poems should include your name, address, phone number, and e-mail on the top of each page.
Prose: We publish both fiction and nonfiction (2,500-3,500 words for full-length pieces). We’re also very interested in short-shorts for both genres. Prose should be double-spaced and paginated. Your name, address, phone number, and e-mail address should appear at the top of each page.
Short Plays: Keep ‘em under 10 minutes long. We’re not going to time them, but maybe you could. Your name, address, phone number, and e-mail address should appear at the top of each page.
Visual Art: Size limit: 7.25 x 9.50 inches, 300 dpi minimum. This can be anything from photographs, to drawings, to printmaking. We'll also consider videos and music for the lit mag portion of Carbon Copy's website (www.carboncopymagazine.com).
We encourage simultaneous submission but please let us know ASAP if your pieces are accepted elsewhere. Our only regret is that you’ll have published your work in a lesser journal. Hey, that’s life. We can live with our regrets. Can you live with yours? If not, call this number: 202-456-1414. Ask for “The Big Hawaiian.”
Unfortunately, multiple submissions are not accepted. Sorry, Charlies.
Please include a brief cover letter and bio with your submission. Please do not explain the meaning of your poem, story, essay. Two reasons: that’s the conundrum of the intentional artistic fallacy; we don’t like conundrums (sudoku can go to hell).
We only accept previously unpublished work. If we published your work, you are granting us first North American serial rights. All other rights revert to you after publication. We kindly ask that if you publish the piece elsewhere in the future that you give us the street cred for having had the foresight for being the first ones to let the world know your piece kicked ass.
Submission periods are May 1st through September 1st, November 1st through March 1st. Period.
